Nothing makes me happier than taking a photograph that I am completely content with. A photograph that captures an essence,an emotion that is understood without knowing the situation, the person, or the circumstance. The one “you just get.”
I didn’t start out as a photographer. I was on an academic track after receiving my Master’s Degree in Art History… but that’s a different story. As fate would have it, I ended up in Los Angeles where I started assisting celebrity and lifestyle photographers after completing my photography studies. In 2005, my dear friend and SF Bay Area photographer, Lydia Daniller, asked me to assist a wedding she was shooting. You should know that Lydia is not only talented, she’s also very charming, so I had no choice but to say yes. To cut a long story short, we captured the ceremony beautifully and had a great time in the process. Towards the end of the night, the bride’s grandmother even asked us to dance with her – and what can I say? She was very charming… I still shoot weddings these days, but I launched my own label for it with my partner Isa from Plumière Photography. Feel free to check out our work at belle&sass – wedding photography for real people.
What I learned from photographing weddings is how to capture people. I am interested in emotional, joyous, (in)tense events and people. I like people and I like (their) stories. And I love seeing beyond the camera.
